After 31,000+ Performances, History Is About to Change
After more than six years of breaking records and welcoming over 320,000 visitors, we're doing something both exciting and essential: we're evolving.
On March 12, we're unveiling something extraordinary: a reimagined experience that honours the legacy while embracing the future of immersive entertainment.
This fresh chapter builds on our proven foundation as the world's longest-running immersive theatrical production, while signalling our bold vision for what's next.
We've spent over six years listening:
-
To every review
-
To every guest interaction
-
To every operational challenge
-
To every technological advancement
This isn't about abandoning what made the experience special. It's about respecting it enough to make it better.
The steampunk Victorian England, the 300-foot Martian Fighting Machines attacking Big Ben & Westminster, Jeff Wayne's iconic score, these aren't going anywhere. But the way our audience will now see and hear them,, the way we use technology that didn't exist when we opened is where the magic of Spring 2026 lies.
Welcome to the next generation of Jeff Wayne's The War of The Worlds: The Experience.
Groundbreaking Changes
-
JEFF WAYNE ENTERS THE EXPERIENCE
For the first time, Jeff Wayne will feature digitally within the experience. The moment audiences step through our doors, they'll be greeted by the legendary composer and visionary behind the Musical Version of The War of The Worlds, who has some words of wisdom for surviving the Martian invasion.
-
UNREAL ENGINE: CINEMATIC-QUALITY GRAPHICS
The VR content for two of the biggest VR scenes have been rebuilt using Unreal Engine, creating photorealistic environments that blur the line between virtual and reality. The boats and balloons sequences now feature:
- Enhanced graphics with next generation environments that blur the boundary between virtual and reality in a way that was not possible when the production first opened.
- Improved audio design that surrounds audiences in 360-degree sound
- Upgraded virtual reality effects bringing the Martian attack on London to spectacular life
- Music and sound design have been spatially remixed to immerse the room.
-
A NEW TRACK JOINS THE LEGENDARY SCORE
The Spirit of Man, a new remix, featuring original guest artists Richard Burton, Phil Lynott and Julie Covington, makes its debut in the secret Red Weed Bar. This addition brings one of the album's most powerful and emotionally charged tracks into the immersive environment, deepening the narrative and giving audiences an even more complete journey through Jeff's iconic musical masterwork.
-
HTC VIVE FOCUS VISION: THE FUTURE OF IMMERSIVE VR
We're revolutionising the VR experience with the HTC Vive Focus Vision headsets. Representing a quantum leap in virtual reality technology. These cutting-edge headsets deliver:
- Enhanced Visual Clarity: Stunning graphics that bring the Martian invasion to life like never before
- Superior Comfort: Advanced ergonomics for extended wear during your journey
This is a complete upgrade to how audiences experience the Thames VR boat ride as 300-foot Martian Fighting Machines attack Westminster and HMS Thunder Child, and the journey to Mars balloon ride VR scene.
-
THE ENGINEER LAB: REIMAGINED
The Engineer’s Lab scene has received a significant refresh with an updated script, new music and sound design, enhanced interactivity, period-authentic props, and richer room dressing. The result is a deeper, more engaging encounter that rewards repeat visitors and draws first-timers fully into the world of 1898 Victorian England, heightening both the storytelling and the sense of genuine immersion.
-
'MARTIAN INVASION' MUSEUM INSTALLATION
Featuring artifacts discovered in the invasion rubble and an item from Jeff’s own archive: a very early handwritten manuscript of The Red Weed score from the original composition period.
WHAT STAYS: THE HEART OF THE EXPERIENCE
While we evolve, we protect what makes this experience legendary:
-
Jeff Wayne's Iconic Score: Based on his groundbreaking 1978 double album, remastered and re-produced exclusively for the experience
-
The Core Story: Follow George Herbert The Journalist and his wife Carrie through the 1898 Martian invasion of Victorian England
-
Live Performance: West End-calibre actors bringing the narrative to life
-
Multi-Sensory Immersion: Physical sets, holographic projections, VR sequences, and atmospheric effects
-
Epic Scale: 300-foot Martian Fighting Machines, the HMS Thunder Child naval battle, and the journey to Mars
-
Nearly Two Hours: A complete theatrical experience from first encounter to final escape
The essence remains. The Experience evolves.
